There is a bit of a different twist to receiving your driver and vehicle services in PA when it comes to motorcycle licensing and registration, which you should know very well about before getting started. There are different types of motorbikes, with different requirements, and different privileges offered to those with the appropriate licensing for operation of a motorcycle or motor bike.

Motorcycle Licensing in PA

The Motorcycle Operator Manual – which you can view online – provides a clear rundown of the rules and regulations for these drivers. You will receive a Class M motorcycle once you have completed the appropriate steps, which is required for operation of motorcycles in PA.

  1. Visit driver license center and submit completed Motorcycle Learner’s Permit application, which is offered online.
  2. Pay $10 permit fee.
  3. Complete vision screen and written motorcycle permit test.
  4. Immediately receive your motorcycle learning permit if you pass.
The motorcycle permit is much like the driver’s permit, and remains valid for a year while you get the practice you need for operation of the bike. Motorcycle Registration in PA

Like a great deal of states these days, registration in PA is required for most of all vehicles – those with wheels at least – which means that your motorcycle must too be registered. There is no appointment offered, and there can be some quite long likes, so make sure you come prepared and ready to wait in line.

In order to prepare appropriately, make sure you gather the following before you go:

  • MV-1 Form, which you cannot download and must receive directly from the driver’s license center.
  • Valid title for the motorcycle.
  • Insurance policy proof with PA insurance company.
  • Identification.
  • VIN trace or verification, which must be done through inspection mechanic or dealership notary.
  • Check or money order for $18 motorcycle registration fee.
You are given 20 days from moving to the state to register your bike, with 10 day processing and 10 days to get inspection after the registration documents are received in the mail.
