Illinois Voter Registration

If you live in Illinois, you are likely aware of the term, Motor Voter state.  This means all those drivers that wish to be a voter, register through the Secretary of State offices.

The state makes it easy to become a voter as you can apply to become a voter at the age of 18 and do so when applying for your driver’s license.  Or, you can apply at any time once you reach the legal voting age.  Remember, there is a processing time of 28 days, so you will want to make sure that you apply in plenty of time to be able to vote in the election.  If the upcoming election is approaching and you have yet to register you can register directly with the county or district officials which will process your application in a quicker amount of time.  Simply visit Election Authorities.

After a statewide election you will find that in most places in Illinois registration is closed for two days.

Requirements

When you apply to be a legal voter in the state of Illinois, you will need to meet the requirements which must be met in order to be eligible.  You will need to provide two separate forms of identification.  One will need to be a photo ID such as your driver’s license or ID card that also includes your address and a recent bill such as a utility bill.  You must also:

  • Be an Illinois resident that US citizen
  • Be an Illinois resident that is at least 18 years of age will be the legal voting age at the time the next election occurs
  • Be an Illinois resident that has been living in the precinct that you are applying to register in for at least 30 days prior to the election
  • Be an Illinois have a clean record meaning you cannot be convicted of a felony
Safe Driver Renewal Registrations

Illinois rewards their drivers by allowing them special privileges through the state’s Safe Driver Sticker Renewal Program.  Through this program you can to vote register to vote at the time you renew your license simply by checking the appropriate box.  You will then be mailed a Motor Voter registration packet to complete.
