Illinois Address Change

Whether you have recently moved to the state of Illinois or have recently moved within the state, all drivers must inform the Secretary of State’s office of any address change.  The state makes the process simple, with an easy Online Address Change form

Driver’s License

Without updating your driver’s license, you will not receive important notifications, such as your renewal notice.  While you can update your address change online, using the form will:

·         Not change the address on your driver’s license.  Just on file with the Secretary of State.

To have your driver’s license updated you must:

·         Visit your local Secretary of State Driver Services Office

·         Submit a issuing fee of $5 for your new updated license

Commercial Driver’s License

If you are a commercial driver in Illinois who has recently moved, you must report your new address change with 10 days from the date of your move.  All CDL drivers must:

·         Complete the address change in person at your local Secretary of State Driver Services Office

Title and Registration

Your title and registration to your vehicle can also be updated by using the Notice of Address Change form.  The form also allows you to:

·         Note whether the address change is temporary, which if your move is temporary; the Secretary of State will wait to update your title and registration until you contact them with your permanent address.

What Else Can The Notice of Address Change Do?

The form can also be used to request applications to have your vehicle title and registration certificates corrected.  Simply:

·         Check the boxes on the Notice of Address Change form and application will be sent to you

Once you receive you applications forms you will need to:

·         Complete each form

·         Submit a fee of $3 for each registration certificate

·         Submit a fee of $6 for each title certificate

Changing Your Address by Mail

If you are interested in changing your address by mail, you can do so by:

·         Downloading a printable address change form found at Notice of Address Change.

Mail the completed form to the:

o    Secretary of State

o    Vehicle Services Department
