For vehicles that are purchased from a dealer, the dealer should take care of the paperwork for you. However, if you are responsible for the vehicle registration you will need the following documentation.

  1. Your vehicle title, which must be notarized and contain the Clerk of Court’s seal.
  2. Proof of identity.
  3. 3. If your vehicle is being registered in Summit, Portage, Medina, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, or Cuyahoga counties, you will need a smog inspection certificate or exemption form.

Ohio Vehicle Registration License Plates

You will be responsible for vehicle registration license plate tag fees.

At the time you complete the vehicle registration process, you will receive a set of standard plates for your vehicle. However, you can opt to have personalized plates or special plates. For more information on personalized plates, visit 4DMV.com’s license plates section.

Affixing Your Ohio Vehicle Registration Stickers to Your License Plates

Once the vehicle registration process is complete, you will receive your stickers, which affix to your license plate and allow law enforcement to know your vehicle is legal to drive on the roads.
