Getting Your Paperwork Together

If you haven’t purchased your vehicle from a dealer, then you will need to take care of the vehicle registration paperwork for yourself.

You will need:

  1. Round up the vehicle’s title. Some vehicle owners may be required to provide the Bill of Sale or invoice on the vehicle.
  2. Complete a Vehicle Registration form.
  3. Provide proof that you have the proper amount of auto insurance.
  4. Provide your County Assessor proof that they have assessed your vehicle or that the vehicle is listed as one to be assessed for the current year.
  5. Provide your personal property tax receipt.
  6. Vehicles that have an out of state title which is marked or related to “salvage” will need a VIN inspection performed by law enforcement and proof must be provided.
  7. If you have plates that you would like to transfer to your new vehicle a vehicle / plates registration information must be provided.
  8. Out of state vehicle registration information must be provided by all those that have just moved to Arkansas.

Vehicle Registration Fees

Vehicle registration fees will be calculated based on your vehicle’s weight and other factors. Vehicle owners that don’t register their vehicles on time will be subject to a late penalty fee of $3 for each 10 day period after the grace period.

Vehicle owners that fail to pay the sales tax on their vehicle purchase on time will be subject to a late penalty fee of 10% of the total amount due.

License Plates
