REGISTRATION AND PLATES
Registration & Plates
All drivers and their vehicles have to have the proper documents to prove that they are eligible for driving in state roadways. While drivers must be licensed, their vehicles must be registered and plated to ensure that they are legally operable on roadways – also to track and record the vehicles and issues that they may be involved in.
The DMV Registration is a process that is required for any vehicle you may own, and many states require that you register the vehicle even if you aren’t driving it. If your vehicle is found to not be registered, there are cities and states that will remove the vehicle from the property as it is not legal for housing in the state. Of course, if you just purchased the vehicle, you are given a grace period for registration, but it cannot be operated without proper registration at any time.
License plates are often times provided at the same time the registration is, with the process and even costs included in the registration process and costs. This eliminates an extra trip and ensures that the vehicle is ready for operation legally in the state roads. At the same time, it gives drivers a reason to consider all costs and paperwork that must be completed before plating and registration is complete. Other aspects of Registration & Titling can be found here.
If you are ever caught driving without the proper plates and registration on the vehicle, you can be cited and fined, and can also risk the loss of your driving privileges if you continuously repeat the offense. At the same time, if you are caught with the license and registration of another vehicle trying to pass it off as yours or for the vehicle you are operating, you may face deeper consequences in the long run as this is a criminal offense.
Registration and Auto Insurance
Before you are able to register your vehicle, you are going to need to prove that it has proper auto insurance covering it, which can be sufficed with the minimum liability auto insurance that is offered in your state. Before you attempt to register the vehicle, you must locate an auto insurance company that is offering such policies in your area, at which point you can start your policy in different ways – dependent on that offered by the provider themselves.
For example, there are several providers today that will offer online policy startups, which allows you to quickly and efficiently get the insurance you need instantly without even needing a vehicle inspection first. This is often the route taken by drivers today as it provides a much easier and quicker process that ensures you are able to get on the road almost immediately – but registration and plates are required first.
Check with your local DMV by phone or even in person in order to determine what costs are imposed on registration and plating, as well as to determine the appropriate documentation or paperwork needed and how to get it in a prompt manner.
